Dear Parents, you’re doing amazing!
Hey there, have you checked in with yourself lately? Are you burnt out balancing life, work, kids and basically everything?
Remember, while the daily mundane and the work part of your life is run-off-the-mill, it’s not necessarily true for your personal time and space too. Now, we know you value routine and doing things a certain way but maybe you’ve not been able to spend a lot of time on yourself or at home with your kids. And maybe you’re running out of ideas too. And that’s exactly what we're here for.
Imagine us a kid expressing all the fun plans that they would like to make and do with you. Wouldn’t that be great too? Sometimes they can’t actually put it in words, but then again, that’s what we’re here for – to give you this non-exhaustive list of ideas that you can plan with your family and especially, your toddlers!
Before we begin, just a quick appreciation shout-out to all the new-age parents out there. Y’all are absolute multi-tasking geniuses but everyone deserves a break. So trust us in making your lives slightly easier. Okay now, bring out your pen and paper and start making notes!
- Park Playdate: And make it actual play! Pack a magnifying glass for bug hunts, have races on the grass, or create obstacle courses.
- Nature Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of natural objects to find, like different coloured leaves, specific types of flowers, or interesting rocks. This encourages exploration and observation skills.
- Museum Exploration: Many museums offer interactive exhibits perfect for young children. Let your child take the lead, asking questions and pointing out things that interest them.
- Art Walks or Heritage Walks: Gives you a breezy weekend starter and is equally informative and educative for kids
- DIY Craft Projects: Plan an afternoon of crafting. Make sock puppets, decorate picture frames, or create a collage using magazine clippings and recycled materials.
- Storytelling & Drawing: Read a story together, then have your child draw their interpretation of the characters or scenes. Discuss their artwork and encourage storytelling through their drawings.
- Fort Building: Grab some blankets, pillows, and chairs, and get creative building a fort together. Decorate it with lights and stuffed animals, then crawl inside for story time or imaginative play.
- Make a Sand Castle: Go to your nearest beach, play with the waves, make your best sand castle with your tots!
- Cooking in the Kitchen: Get your child involved in age-appropriate kitchen tasks like measuring ingredients, stirring batter, or decorating cookies. This teaches basic maths skills and builds confidence.
- Board Games!: Dust off some classic board games or try new ones suitable for your child's age. This is a fun way to practise counting, following rules, and taking turns. (We have some too if you want to check them out!)
- Themed Playdates: Choose a theme like pirates, dinosaurs, or outer space, and plan activities around it. Dress up, create themed crafts, and tell stories related to the chosen theme.
Some key things you can keep in mind!
- Age-Appropriate Activities: Tailor activities to your child's age and developmental stage.
- Focus on Fun: The most important thing is to create a joyful and engaging experience for both you and your child.
- Let Your Child Lead: Allow your child to take the initiative and choose activities that interest them.
- Unplug & Connect: Put away electronic devices and focus on interaction and quality time.
If you’ve made it this far, we hope this helped! Happy Reading and Playing!
